Kim Smith Iverson, LCSW, CSAT brings over 30 years of clinical experience as a psychotherapist in treating people with issues related to mental health, addictions, family of origin, trauma and codependency, in the private practice arena, residential addiction industry and community mental health. Kim works with a broad spectrum of clients in the areas of trauma, addictions, family of origin issues, grief work, shame, depression and anxiety, however, specializes in the area of intimacy disorders, relational betrayal, love, relationship and sex addiction. Kim has been intensively trained as a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) through the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP). This CSAT certification and training was developed by the world renowned therapist and researcher, Dr. Patrick Carnes and requires attendance at multiple training modules and supervision with a CSAT® supervisor. Kim has attended and completed Onsite Workshops, Psychodrama and Experiential Training Institutes . Kim is Level One Certified in the Marilyn Murray, “Murray Method” which is used to treat individuals with unresolved trauma, addictions and abuse.
In addition to Kim's work in the private practice arena, she also serves as the Clinical Specialist and CSAT Clinician with Bethesda Workshops, a program with intensive workshops for sex, pornography and love addiction, in Nashville, Tennessee. Kim is also a group leader, with Onsite Workshops, a worldwide leader in therapeutic and personal growth workshops, in Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee.
Kim also served on the clinical staff at The Bridge to Recovery--a residential program for those struggling with addictions, trauma, and codependency, where she facilitated inpatient clinical services for sex addicts and their partners. Prior to work as a clinician at The Bridge to Recovery, she was the Clinical Director there for almost 5 years. Kim oversaw the residential program, the clinical team and support staff, in addition to leading psycho-educational lectures, group therapy, experiential therapy, self-discovery and grief workshops, as well as aided in Equine Assisted Therapy.
Kim received her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Louisville's Kent School of Social Work in 1985. She received her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Western Kentucky University in 1984.
Kim's treatment approach, though Rogerian, includes Attachment based, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), and Family Systems orientation. Kim's overall style of counseling includes addressing the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual components of your life as they relate to the circumstances/issues you are presenting. Together she will work with you toward a greater experience of health and understanding in your life. She works from a number of therapeutic modalities and theoretical orientations. Kim will often use Experiential Therapy, Psychodrama, Shame & Anger Reduction, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Parts Work, Art & Music, along with a number of different experiential techniques in her counseling sessions. Kim also offers therapy centered on Christian based approaches and values when desired.
Most importantly, Kim believes you bring all your answers to the sessions. With the willingness to show up and be seen, Kim will help you discover and process your answers in a safe and trusting therapeutic environment.
